HCAC Awards 2010 Visual and Performing Arts Scholarship

The Henry County Arts Council is proud to announce Marcus MtCastle as the recipient of the 2010 HCAC Visual and Performing Arts Scholarship.  The 2010 Napoleon High School graduate was chosen based on his outstanding involvement in Henry County arts, exceptional grades, and future commitments to the arts.  MtCastle plans to attend Capitol University in the fall to study Instrumental Music Education.  Marcus will receive the scholarship in the amount of $150.  Although Marcus claims he has “very little ‘artistic’ ability beyond stick figures and coloring books,” he believes he makes up for it in the music department.  MtCastle has been involved in an array of music programs at NHS including Band, Jazz Band, Jazz Choir, Choir, and has been the President of the Drama Club throughout all four years of high school.  The recent graduate has portrayed his talent in numerous lead roles in plays and musicals such as “Music Man,” “Don’t Drink the Water,” “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” along with many others.  The Henry County Arts Council would like to wish Marcus MtCastle the best of luck with his future.

The Arts Council was pleased to sponsor the Second Community Family Fun Day and The Benches of Henry County Art Auction on Saturday, May 16 from 10 am to 4 pm.  Downtown Napoleon had shopping at various stores and arts & craft vendors on the streets.  Children enjoyed four different inflatables, games such as a corn hole contest, free face painting, free art & crafts projects, and much more.  Entertainment throughout the day included local singer Michelle Paxton and the Red Shoes Dance Studio.  Interested people helped repaint the Wildcat in downtown Napoleon with Napoleon High School sports team members and others assisting.  Lunch from various vendors, was available, too.

We were pleased to team up with other groups in Henry County.  The Henry County Historical Society  offered plants for sale.  The Henry County Humane Society created "Critter Art" for sale.  The Florida Arbor of Gleaner Life Insurance Society hosted a bake sale.  Thank you for all  donated items from our members and the Arbor.

The Henry County American Red Cross, Heart to Heart, the Arts Council sponsored a Poker Run starting at the Liberty Center Fire Department and ending in downtown Napoleon in front of the Henry County Bank

A Silent Auction was held throughout the day at the Arts Council Gallery.  The day ended with an art auction of painted benches by local artists.

We thank all that supported our fun day.
